Kokopelli Jewelry - Native American Motif

Kokopelli is the hunchback flute player of Native American legand.  He has become a popular item as can be seen by the extensive list of kokopelli i tems currently for sale on Ebay.  I did notice his image has been cleaned up since we first encountered him in the early 1970's.  At that time if you lifted the skirt on a Kokopelli Kachina you would notice he was extremely well endowed :)   The Kokopelli is a common fertility symbol throughout the Southwest.  In some beliefs the kokopelli visits various communities, seducing and impregnating the young women drawn to the tones of his flute playing.

Here is another version of what Kokopelli means that I found online "  Kokopelli was revered by Native Americans and is often represented in petroglyphs, paintings and jewelry as a flute player. Kokopelli was known as the powerful fertility god and was believed to be a shape changer. His representation can be found carved on the side of cliffs, inside caves, mimicked in Kachina dolls and in personal adornment. He is generally believed to bring good luck and fortune. Among the Hopi people he is represented as a humpback because he carries unborn children on his back, delivering them to young women. Kokopelli also takes part in marriage ceremonies and crop rituals. He chases away winter and ushers in spring."

We don't have much interest in the Kokopelli decor items, but are suckers for old Native American items which incorporate Kokopelli into the design.  As we acquire more of these we will photograph them and add pictures and descriptions to new pages on the site.
